You Don't Have to Drop By
2024, oil on canvas, 24 x 48 inches
Three rabbits are lounging or sleeping in tall grass, bathed in a bright red light. This piece captures the feeling of an unexpected, unpleasant emotion creeping up on someone unprepared for its arrival and the discomfort of not wanting others to worry about one's well-being.
Please, Do Not Perceive Me
2024, oil on canvas, 40 x 40 inches
The image of a rabbit hangs down vertically and appears to fade into its environment. The rabbit is suspended and unable to flee or withdraw from its surroundings.
Dealing with the feeling of stigma on oneself can be overwhelming. It can make a person feel helpless, especially when they struggle with knowing they can do nothing about the way it makes them look. They may feel like they cannot escape their reality so they will try and bring on no more attention than they have already received. When I create works, I’m often trying to portray feelings that don’t have a specific name. The goal in this case was to show, rather than talk about deep emotional states of the mind.
Caroline Waits for Her Headache to Fade
2022, oil on canvas, 28 x 50 inches
A lone figure is presented in the foreground displaying a frayed expression upon her face. behind her, three rabbits wait to see her next move. they will then determine their next move based on the figures disposition.
My experiences while I work on a piece will directly affect its outcome. I will have one intention when I begin a new piece and by the time it is finished, it will have developed an entirely new meaning and/or mood. Essentially, this work is commenting on my human experience while creating the piece.
Outrunning Karma
2022, oil on canvas, 36 x 66 inches
As I transitioned from my last work into this piece, I felt compelled to explore my abilities with color. The idea stemmed from the feeling of trying to escape the karma of who you used to be and feeling charged up into action at the thought of it. The yellow and purple seem to bring a vibration-type of movement to the piece.
